Don't restrict yourself from playing a game because of graphics, Oblivion is still an amazingly immersive role playing game, better than skyrim in my opinion, skin with Morrowind.
If graphics do concern you Omgwtfbbqkitten View Profile View Posts. Here is a list of some of the mods I use. You don't have to use them all, but it will give you an idea of what mods you can use for textures. I don't use an ENB though, so you will have to look that up yourself.
This is listed as a Skyrim mod, but it works for Oblivion too. It allows you to run the game in Borderless Windowed mode. Put OneTweak. Below, "some" of Bomrets Textures are identical to Detailed Terrain, but they are half the size. It is the only place to find it. Better to get it now before TesAlliance goes offline someday. It also includes compatable armor and clothing meshes and a seamless skin texture for both bodies.
Make sure you want to use this. It has alot of features some people don't like, but most of them can be disabled in the two included ini's Optional If you have any performance problems, you can use the mod, Optimizer Textures to reduce the texture quality some to improve performance.
Lougian's textures, Insanity Sorrow's weapon and armor textures and the creature textures from the Mythic mods might be a little taxing on some systems, so it might be beneficial to optimize these textures. To Lord Tesdor: I would stay away from using that many mods as Oblivion exe have not been designed to handle more then 2GB RAM and those 4 GB can only change a switch in executable to accept some more RAM , meaning that too many mods in memory will cause problems as Obivion have a bad way of handling how to cleaning out unused elements from memory Garbage collection.
Changing 2 GB to 4 GB with suggested mod will not make a 32 bit exectable become a 64 bit and might introduce other unpredicable problems in the long run. Been modding and playing Oblivion since it first came out around and everytime there have been problems where game crashed after some time with too many mods or other problems.
I would suggest players who want to play this game modded today to only have as few as possible mods, at least at the first play through, to reduce problems which may make game hard to finish as save games can become corrupt etc. With mods you could expect dips down to FPS. I would recommend to take a look at Oblivion Reloaded which isn't a classical mod as it make use of dll while loading Oblivion. It have at least imroved how Oblivion look for me on my computer combined with Quarl's texture pack, Darnified UI for a more useful HUD, better inventory management etc , Enhanced Hotkey up to 40 Hotkeys and very good when you want to cast a spell as hotkey called "Autocast" by game author , but keep your standard spell active in the background or equip both bow and arrow with one key, MiniMap is a very good mod to help you see where you are in game both in Dungeons and in the World without having to open main map Darnified also make standard map fill screen more then standard UI.
All in all the difference from the basic non-modded version from and this is a very big step up. Oblivion Reloaded OR adds shadows not perfect - and if you set shadowfilter to "high" it will make shadow more up to date with today's games and you don't need ENB. According to authors of OR it will make use of modern hardwares shader models like those in my GTX In dungeons now I can see fog, rain look actually as rain and smoke from chimneys from a mod called Animated Window Lightning.
With OR I can now see mountains in the far distance with transition to horizonts which looks rather natural. In the old day's you had to turn down LOD, if you didn't want to have a performance hit. Game still have some pop ups when you walk around, but not that way it used to be. You can play in 3. From what I can see it is no visual difference no border at all. Make sure that you have closed all running processes like oblivion.
Make sure to close game. In short when you make changes in ini-files, allways make sure that those exectable which make use of those ini-files will not be blocking changes to be saved. In this case Darnified UI settings which you access in game seem to be blocked from saving while game is running. When you run through the Sewers after creating your character for the first time and before getting to the stage where you confirm your build leaving the Sewers, you might have cought a disease from fighting those rats.
You need active buff or debuff icon on screen while you adjust where it should show, but only long enough to be able to press tab default keybind.
This is an easy part to part to miss out when you make changes in Darnified UI and do not have an active spell or debuff on you while adjusting how HUDs elements should be placed. First when I looked in my status I could see a read number for Strength, so those icons are very important during game play to have on screen to keep oneself from unnecessary surprices like this.
The annoying thing is that you can't keybind a "Take All" key from within game itself. I missed that on my first try out of this mod. Make sure that Oblivion. I use [E] to move forward in game, but you don't need to change E to another keyinding because when you read books game is being paused which make this key still close books.
First of all it make it possible to equip or unequip your armor as a set with only a key bound. Second it make it possible to keep one standard spell active that one you see in HUD and make use of other spells in the back ground called Autocast in this mod.
It is even possible to chain spells with one key. If you use a bow you know that each time you need make sure you also have arrows active in inventory. You will see that key highlight in white background not blinking as author describe it. If hold down Control and click on a spell it will change status to Autocast, several spell added to same key will change into Multicast it will cast all spell in sequnce without you having to press key more then once.
To remove or change order of item you need to use the upper left symbols in EH UI. Control key is the main modifer key for EH. It works even if you have made control to work for other things in game as long game is being paused and you don't have another mod which also access the same key during paused state.
This is really a must have add on as you can search for what ingridients that you have in inventory that match incl potions. You can create with one click on "Create" up to Potions which save you some finger work and this mods adds some other capabilites that is better explained on Nexus or by reading README docs.
Meaning it should be placed after or down under in load order, if you have installed it with Wrye Bash method or OBMM and it is shown in load order list. Pressing [ALT] first will still make a quick save with this method. Saving often will cause the numbers of save game files to grow rather fast, but with Wrye Bash third tab from left in WB you can delete those files you don't need rather fast compared to in game method.
In game preview isn't working correctly, but WB will still be to show preview, so I guess it have to do with internal rendering engine and compression of image files isn't capable to handle OR image to create a preview image. It doesn't mean that your file have become corrupt for those who might think that.
It is important to keep the numbers of those save files as few as possible to avoid having too many loaded in game memory. The longer you play, the more information have to be stored for each save game file which is then competing with active running memory, so you will probably not see any problem until you reach a later stage in playing.
Best to avoid crashes as it can cause corrupted save game files in long run. In general grass have always been this games main problem from the start and people have offered different mods to improve on that.
Too much grass with details like shadows for each straw, AA and higher density for each cell loaded all this with high Loading Distance so you can see cities and surrounding moutains in the far away distance will eat this game availible RAM which sooner or later will cause problems.
